The Absolute Worst Mistake an Affiliate
Marketer Can Make
Can you imagine a car without a steering
wheel or a stereo without speakers? That is what many affiliate
marketers are like. They are incomplete. They are missing the
one thing that sets the super affiliates apart from the small
time affiliates. Having their own website!
The absolute worst mistake an affiliate
marketer can make is to rely on mirror sites provided by their
sponsor. There are several reasons for this:
- When you do this you are just another
affiliate trying to make money using the same tools as
countless others are doing. You will simply get lost in the
crowd.
- You can only promote one affiliate
program.
- You cannot change the website in any way
if you want to add any promotional material like reviews and
content
- You cannot submit it to the search
engines as the engines do not accept duplicate content or
sites.
- You can only build your sponsor’s
business not your own.
So what is the solution?
Build a theme content website, here is how
to do this:
- Make a central idea or concept: this
will be your theme. It can be anything that interests you, but
should be a specialized niche. Popular topics include health
and fitness, internet marketing, home business start ups. You
should try to specialize within these niches so that you do
not get lost in the crowd or join affiliate programs that are
completely saturated.
- Find a template that is related to your
theme: You can find one by searching on Google. Words to the
wise, free templates are not that good. This may cost a little
but is worth it.
- Find a HTML editor: You can sometimes
get one from your host. For a simple website free ones can be
obtained but be careful that they work as they do have
restrictions. This will enable you to build a website easily.
Try to get one that will allow you to copy and paste from
word.
- Sign up for an autoresponder so that you
can send out your newsletter/publication and announcements to
your list. An autoresponder will also manage your list for
you. Try to avoid free ones as they usually have 3rd
party ads which make your business look bad. Aweber is a
reliable one which I have used for many years. They have good
customer service and tech support.
- Always remember to publish a free
newsletter so that you can build your list and business. If

- Your publication can be in many
different forms; a newsletter like this one, or a tips
Flyer, announcements about your topic, news items in your
field etc.
- Delivery: You can have a weekly,
bimonthly or monthly publication, but be very sure that you
deliver your newsletter on time, so that your subscribers
know when to expect your newsletter.
- Be careful how you plan and set up your
Website. Here are 6 main points to help you.
- Make it sticky, your visitors need to
want to stay.
- It must load fast, do not fall into
the trap of big fancy graphics.
- Make it simple, for your visitor to
find his way about, and focus on your products.
- The font should be easy to read and
look professional; black on a white background is best, with
a little use of color to emphasize your points. Be careful
of capitalization and exclamation points. Never cheapen your
site and credibility with too many of these.
- Take a look at your competition, see
how they have done it and improve.
- Never give into the temptation to get
a free Website, it will cheapen your image and destroy your
creditability. A little money invested, will go along way to
making your own personal
- In order to build a profitable Theme
Website you will need to join more than one Affiliate Program.
These programs should all be related to your niche market, for
example if you are into Health, your Affiliate programs should
all be related to Health.
Using these points you can take the first
step towards becoming a “super Affiliate”
Even the Marketing “Gurus” started with a
simple website, and built up their business from small
beginnings. Always remember the largest Oak Tree begins with a
small acorn!
